Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 28, 2026
Vidu is a self-hosted tool that downloads publicly available YouTube videos. This policy explains what the service does and does not collect.
What we collect
Vidu does not require an account and asks for no personal information. We do not run our own analytics or store a record of what you download. We do show third-party advertising; see Advertising and cookies below.
How a request is handled
When you submit a link, the server:
- fetches metadata for the video you entered (title, thumbnail, available formats);
- downloads the requested video or audio into a temporary directory;
- streams the file back to your browser;
- deletes the temporary files once the response is complete.
The submitted URL and downloaded media are not stored after the request finishes. We do not build a history of what you download.
Server logs
Standard web-server logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and request path) may be recorded for security and debugging. These logs are not sold or shared and are retained only as long as needed to operate the service.
Advertising and cookies
We use Google AdSense to display ads, which helps keep Vidu free. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
Third parties
Retrieving a video necessarily contacts YouTube's servers. Your use of YouTube content is also governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Vidu has no affiliation with YouTube or Google.
Changes
This policy may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
